Dawn Dunlap
Our May presentation will feature one of Cambria’s own. Longtime and new residents will enjoy hearing stories of early Cambria, including the prominent families who helped shape the town’s growth. This presentation is sure to appeal to history buffs and anyone interested in the rich heritage of Cambria. Dawn Dunlap is a fourth-generation Californian rancher, raised mostly on her family’s ranch off Santa Rosa Road—where she still lives today. Having spent much of her life here, Dawn possesses an extraordinary depth of knowledge about Cambria’s history. She left the ranch to attend the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned a B.A. in Classical Archaeology and a Master’s degree in Greek Archaeology. She pursued further graduate studies in Greece and lived in several countries in both Europe and the Middle east in the 1970’s.
Dawn is a co-founder of the Cambria Historical Society and has served as chairperson for both the Old Santa Rosa Chapel and Cemetery Committees. Along with others, she helped create two walking tour guides for the Historical Society. The tour highlights more than two dozen historic Cambria structures and offers a rich glimpse into the town’s past.

She is a fifty-six year member of the Native Daughters of the Golden West, a non-profit organization for women born in California which focuses on the care and preservation of California history. Dawn served as their Grand President in 2020.
We hope our members recognize what a special opportunity this luncheon presentation will be. Dawn will share a series of engaging vignettes about Cambria’s early days and the families who helped shape its identity—stories that bring our town’s history vividly to life.
